Clear a space. Push the couch back, move the coffee table. You need room to fall, spin, and stretch without thinking about furniture.

Suggestion: You need less space than you think , just enough to extend your arms fully in every direction.

Build a 35-minute playlist. Start slow: ambient, deep. Build to something wild in the middle. Bring it back down at the end. This is your arc.

Suggestion: No guilty pleasures here. If your body wants to move to ABBA, let it.

Close the door. Lock it if you need to. Cover the mirrors. Turn off your phone notifications. Press play.

pause

Stand still for the first thirty seconds. Feel your feet on the floor. Let the music enter through your skin, not your ears.

Start moving. Begin with your hands. Then your hips. Then your head. Don't choreograph , respond. Let the music tell your body what to do.

Suggestion: If you feel ridiculous, that's perfect. Ride the ridiculousness until it turns into freedom.

When the music gets intense, give it everything. Jump. Shake. Scream if it comes. Sweat is not optional , it's the point.

Suggestion: Your neighbours can deal with it. This is your thirty minutes.

There's a moment , usually around minute eighteen , where your thinking mind goes offline. You stop dancing and start being danced. Your body knows things your brain forgot.

As the music slows, let your movement slow. Don't force a stop. Let it dissolve. End on the floor if that's where your body takes you.

pause

Lie on the floor. Feel your heartbeat. Feel the heat radiating from your skin. Stay here for two full minutes.

I forgot I had a body that could do this. Not perform , just move. Without rules, without watching, without caring. I feel like I just met myself for the first time in months.

Suggestions

  • Close the curtains. Cover or turn away any mirrors. This is not about how you look.
  • Wear whatever you can move freely in , or nothing at all.
  • If you have downstairs neighbours, warn them. Or do it during the day.
  • The playlist matters: mix high energy with slow waves. Let the music decide your body.

Variations

Blindfolded

Blindfolded: Dance with a scarf over your eyes. Your body moves differently when it can't see itself.
