A weekend gets a lot better when everyone is making something together. These projects are simple enough for younger hands and satisfying enough for grown-ups: a birdhouse to hang in the garden, custom t-shirts nobody else will have, and a tiny garden that lives on a windowsill.
Pick one or run through all three across an afternoon. The real prize is not the finished object, it is the elbows-on-the-table teamwork, the paint on fingers, and the pride when the birds actually move in. Clear the table, lay down some newspaper, and start.

Build a birdhouse. Cut wood into six pieces, nail together a base, walls, and roof, then paint it in bright colors and hang it in the garden.
Suggestion: Let little ones lead the painting while an adult handles the hammer.Make personalized t-shirts. Lay a plain tee flat, place a stencil, fill it with fabric paint, then peel and let it dry.
Plant a miniature garden. Fill a shallow container with soil, add small plants or succulents, then arrange stones and little figurines.
Suggestion: Water sparingly and put it somewhere the kids will see it grow.Step back together and admire what you built. Snap a photo of the finished projects side by side.
